Tikchik River Float Trip

Price - Air charters

Tikchik River float trips start from Nishlik Lake at the top of the Tikchik Lakes system. A trip to Nishlik Lake requires two bush plane flights. It is possible to fly directly from Dillingham to Nishlik Lake in a float plane, however using the wheel plane is less expensive and more convenient.

Dillingham to Tikchik's air trip  - in our Cessna 206 wheel plane. A round  trip from Dillingham to Tikchik's airstrip return to Dillingham is $ 605

Tikchik's air strip to Nishlik Lake -  From Tikchik's airstrip the group would then be flown in a Dehavilland Beaver float plane to Nishlik Lake. At the bottom of Tikchik River the group would be transported by boat back to Tikchik's air strip for the wheel plane flight back to Dillingham.

The flying time between Tikchik and Nishlik Lake  is 25 minutes each way. The cost for the float plane trip is $ 450. A pick up is not necessary because Tikchik River flows into Tikchik Lake where we can use a boat to transport the group back to the runway.

See AIR CHARTERS for specific details.

DESCRIPTION

Tikchik River drains from Nishlik Lake (the northernmost lake in the State Park) and flows through the high plateau country of the Tikchik River basin. The river is only 40 miles ling and can easily be floated in 4 to 5 days. Longer duration trips will afford ample time for hiking and exploring.  This river is extremely remote and provides for incredible scenery and wildlife viewing as you pleasantly float down the river.

Caribou, moose and brown bear are all plentiful, along with wolverine, wolf, and several fur-bearing animals. The higher open tundra hills lend themselves to wildlife viewing with the gentle up-sloping terrain exposing wildlife for viewing. this is an incredible trip for caribou viewing in the summer and brown bear in August.

The open hills and caribou trails provide numerous opportunities for day hikes and exploring the adjacent country. As you transcend the river, you will gradually travel into lower country and lush spruce and birch forest. The lower part of the river offers fantastic fishing for Dolly Varden, Arctic grayling and some rainbow trout.
